Carmel has university qualifications in Police Studies, Italian and Criminal Justice Studies and an Honours Degree in Law. Carmel also has a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
At university, Carmel researched the interface between family violence and property distribution under the Family Law Act for her honours dissertation.
Before joining LAC Lawyers, Carmel worked for Victoria Legal Aid and the Office of Public Prosecutions, gaining experience in civil procedure and criminal prosecutions within the Victorian Court System.
In 2000, Carmel was awarded an Italian Government Scholarship from the Italian Language & Cultural Institute. Carmel was one of only three Victorians to have been awarded such a prestigious award, giving her the opportunity to further her language studies and professional skills in Italy.
Carmel’s passion for law is reflected in her dealings with clients’ matters. Whilst Carmel is sensitive to clients’ needs, she remains focused on obtaining an excellent outcome in a timely and cost effective manner. Carmel fights hard for her clients.
Carmel has been described as an “excellent young lawyer” by senior and junior counsel briefed in a large merit review claim against Medicare Australia currently being run by LAC Lawyers.

Criminal Law - All you need to know about stalking

If you have been charged with stalking, it is a serious criminal offence and carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment. A defence available to you in criminal proceedings for stalking or a personal safety intervention order is that the court is required to be satisfied on the balance of probabilities that the person has engaged in a course of conduct without malice.

The Civil Procedure Act 2010 (Vic) was introduced to reform civil procedure in the Federal and Victorian courts. The Civil Procedure Act came into effect on 1 January 2011. The Civil Dispute Resolution Act 2011 (Cth) was introduced to reform civil procedure in all Federal Courts and is expected to come into effect before October 2011.
