Q. Are there mechanisms in place to register de facto relationships in Australia?
A. There are state based relationship registers in some states, but not in all. Please contact your solicitor in relation to whether there is a register in your state. There are benefits in registering your relationship, if a register exists in your state, as it would assist in the event that you wish to make a claim for a property adjustment in the future.
